IN REMEMBRANCE

Funeral services for Nelda Joyce (Phelps) Ainsworth, 83, of Bridge City were held Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Liberty Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Terry Wright and Brother Trey Ainsworth. An interment service followed at Griggs Cemetery in Newton County.

Nelda, born November 18, 1941, in Stringtown, Texas, passed away on December 8, 2024. She married her high school sweetheart, Henry Ainsworth, on June 16, 1962.

After graduating in 1960, Nelda attended Tyler Junior College and Lamar University, earning a teaching degree. She taught at Hatton Elementary for 35 years, making her classroom a creative and fun learning environment.

Her favorite season was Christmas, and she loved welcoming family and friends into her home, showcasing her collection of antiques and festive decorations. Nelda traveled extensively with Henry, visiting all 50 states and several European countries.

She is survived by her son Trey (Leslie), daughter Charin Price, grandchildren Jadon (Kayla), Laurel, Mason, great-grandchildren, sister Jaxine Bishop, and many relatives and friends.

Nelda was preceded by her parents, in-laws, husband, and several siblings and relatives.

The family welcomed friends Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carroway Funeral Home and Friday evenings at Liberty Baptist Church.
