Michael Butts, a cherished husband, father, Poppie, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, at the age of 51, after bravely battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as Sarcoma. A beloved member of the Deweyville community, Mike's spirit and kindness touched the lives of many.
Mike was a devoted husband to his wife Rhonda, with whom he shared countless adventures and unforgettable memories. He had an incredible ability to make her laugh, often pulling off shenanigans that left her both surprised and delighted. His love for her was evident in every shared moment, and together they built a life filled with joy, warmth, and laughter.
As a father, Mike was immensely proud of his three sons, who grew into remarkable men in their own right. He cherished his time spent with them together and one on one- especially during hunting trips that filled his heart with pride and happiness. He often reflected on how fulfilling it was to see them achieve their dreams. Mike was particularly overjoyed when his son Kirby proposed to Hope, whom he simply adored. He cherished her and deeply appreciated the love she shared with her parents and their commitment to the Lord.
Mike's role as "Poppie" to his grandchildren was one of his GREATEST joys. His love for them was unconditional, and he eagerly anticipated the arrival of his granddaughter Oakley. Though he never had the chance to hold her in his arms, he was in awe of her pictures, beaming with pride at the newest addition to the family. He relished every moment spent with his grandsons and Levi especially during their special boys' nights out.
An avid outdoorsman, Mike found solace in hunting and fishing. He spent many joyful days hog hunting with Jonathan, Channing, Jake, Stetson and family, often coming home muddy and smellier than the HOGS.
His passion for the outdoors extended to his time with the Louisiana Blood Trailers, where he formed bonds,
His adventures at The Lonrarm Lodge with his loyal dog Ranger and friends were some of his fondest memories.
Not even going to begin to name names of friends we would be here all day and I think you all would probably like some lunch in a little bit. But he had a multitude of friends that he considered brothers, that were also brothers from another mother.
Mike is survived by his beloved canine companions, Ranger, his Ladner's Yellow Blackmouth Cur, and his tiny 3lb Yorkie, Baby Girl Lainey, who was always by his side, she was sitting in his lap until he left her to go home to be with Jesus.
Despite the challenges posed by cancer, Mike never let it define him. He continued to pursue his passions with determination, even managing to kill two bucks with one arm. His resilience and unwavering spirit inspired those around him. Mike's generous heart led him to help those in need, whether it was buying a burger for a homeless man or simply offering a listening ear.
Mike loved to travel and often surprised Rhonda with spontaneous getaways, reminding her to pack her bags for yet another adventure. He enjoyed riding the backroads and spending time at Old Hickory Hunting Club, where he created beautiful memories with friends and family.
Michael Butts will be remembered for his infectious smile, positive attitude, and the love he shared with everyone he met. His legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves behind a loving family, including his loyal companions, and an abundance of cherished memories.
Rest in peace, Michael. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
