Jimmy Lee Rightsell passed away on March 2, 2025 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, surrounded by his family after fighting cancer valiantly for over a year. He was born August 18, 1949 to Donald Fredrick and Dorothy Lee Dykes Rightsell in Orange, Texas. He married Colleen Whitehead on January 28, 1972 in Provo, Utah. And later sealed in the Provo temple for time and all eternity.
Jim loved camping, hunting, fishing, and road trips with his wife. He drove more than a million miles driving semi trucks throughout the country, he owned his own company and was able to drive with his two sons. And he drove for various other companies. He was a really good mechanic and handyman who could figure anything out. And was always willing to help anyone and teach them.
He loved being outside mowing his lawn and doing the gardening. He loved animals and would talk to them all the time, but mostly he loved people and would talk to strangers as if they were his best friend.
He had a lot of health issues and always fought hard, but the cancer took him from us way too soon.
He loved playing Santa all year long and seeing the kids smile, he was a giant of a man with a big heart, he loved serving others and he loved his family with his whole heart. He was a great example of unconditional love and always welcomed his family and friends.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served a mission to Uruguay/ Paraguay. He loved missionary work and was very knowledgeable and held a deep relationship with his Savior and Father in Heaven. He held various callings in the church and always gave more than was required, he loved doing the Lords work, and has been working on genealogy with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife Colleen Whitehead Rightsell, son Terry Matthew Rightsell (Ann Shepherd) daughter Amy Katherine Llewellyn (Jared G Llewellyn) and son Jared Lynn Rightsell (Tresca Bernadette Jakins). He was the grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of 10. His brother Donald Jack Rightsell, sisters Katherine Walker, Beverly Ann Moore, and Cynthia Elaine Harris
Services are under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2024 at 11:00 am in the North Field 4th Ward chapel; 1300 North 408 West, Pleasant Grove, Utah. Family and friends may attend a viewing before the service at the church from 9:00 - 10:45 am. The interment will follow the funeral in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
