BCHS Alumni Foundation

Founder | President Emeritus

Frank Scales

Frank Scales is a 1977 National Honor Society and Cum Laude graduate of Bridge City High School, as well as a local Lions Club Scholarship Recipient; where he then went on to major in music at McNeese University and march in the Pride of Louisiana drum line for McNeese on a band scholarship. (These scholarships would be catalysts several decades later for what our Foundation is doing now.)

That afforded him trips to the Independence Bowl game, where the McNeese Band performed alongside Bob Hope, and a special invitation to perform at halftime at a New Orleans Saints game in the Louisiana Superdome. During his music studies at McNeese, Frank performed with the Lake Charles Symphony, served as an organist on scholarship at several Catholic Churches, and performed in the McNeese Jazz Band at all home basketball games. Frank was the keyboardist with Chris Flowers and Louisiana Express Band for several years, also based in Lake Charles.

While living in Lake Charles, Frank began (what would become) his 'second love' and lifelong career in Broadcasting and Audio/Video Production. He served as Creative Services Director with the LBJ Broadcasting Group in Austin and met then-owner Lady Bird Johnson on several occasions. While living in Austin, Frank mentored several up-and-coming rising stars in the voice-over, audio, and music business, including Jason Halbert, now Kelly Clarkson's Band Director and Hammond B3 player.

Frank's career in Audio Production and Music has taken him from Austin to Houston, to the West Coast for 18 years, and now he and his wife, Jan, live north of Denver, CO, where Frank operates his own A/V Music Studio. Both he and Jan serve in their local church.

Over the years, Frank has used his natural leadership and creative abilities to work in or lead some of the biggest radio networks in the country's Creative Services Departments (Bill Young Productions, K-LOVE, Air 1, Relevant Radio). While working for Bill Young Productions, his voice and production could be heard on national tours with artists like The BB King Blues Festival, dCTalk, Harry Connick Jr, Andrea Bocelli, Discover Stars, Alison Krauss, Gordon Lightfoot, George Benson, Natalie Cole, Ray Charles, Seal, and custom music scoring for Olympic Gymnast Mary Lou Retton's PBS Children's series.

Frank's music talents have served him well. On weekends, no matter where he lived, he was usually active in the music departments of the churches he attended. Some of them, he was either the Music or Band director.

Frank has also been Bridge City Alumni's volunteer webmaster since 2005 and considers it an honor to serve as the first (interim) President of our Bridge City High School Alumni Foundation, and looks forward to seeing it on its mission of paying it forward to future BCHS alumni. "I count it an honor to be working alongside some of the greatest fellow Bridge City Alumni that make up the Bridge City High School Alumni Foundation Board. What we started so long ago, I believe, is in good hands for years to come, and for future generations."

After 20 years of service, Frank retired from his volunteer roles with the Alumni Foundation in 2025
