Darrell Segura

Darrell Segura’s journey began in the Bridge City School District, where he started his academic career in First Grade and ultimately graduated in 1967. As a member of the school’s Cardinal community, Darrell enjoyed the honor and privilege of being part of the 1966 State Championship football team, an experience that he cherishes to this day. His twelve years in the Bridge City School District were formative, allowing him to forge deep and lasting friendships with both his classmates and faculty members, many of whom remain significant in his life.
Following graduation, Darrell pursued higher education at Lamar University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. This academic achievement played a crucial role in shaping his career and sustaining his family over the next 39 years until his retirement in 2010 from Motiva Enterprises. While at Motiva, Darrell worked in the Human Resources department, making numerous impactful contributions.
One of his notable initiatives was a popular employee volunteer reading program at a local elementary school in Port Arthur, which he successfully led. Darrell also took it upon himself to coordinate festive events such as Christmas parties and summer picnics for Hughen School, a facility dedicated to children with disabilities. Furthermore, he was instrumental in developing a safety program known as TBYA (Think Before You Act) in 1990, which significantly enhanced the overall safety record of the plant and led to improved safety statistics. Remarkably, the TBYA acronym continues to be utilized in the organization today, a testament to its lasting impact.
Darrell’s commitment to education and excellence extends to his family, as both of his children graduated from Bridge City High School, excelling in academics and track and field. His son, Mark Segura, has established himself as a respected operator at Motiva, while his daughter, Misty Segura Roberts, has achieved considerable success as a lawyer in Houston.
In addition to his professional and familial achievements, Darrell has dedicated his time to community service. He has served on the executive board of the Bridge City Historical Society and is currently the Chairperson of the Bridge City High School Alumni Association. This association organizes and hosts the Annual Classic Cardinal Reunion Banquet, a cherished event that takes place on the Saturday after Homecoming each year.
Through his continued involvement in the community and contributions to education, Darrell Segura exemplifies the enduring spirit of the saying, "Once a Cardinal, Always a Cardinal."
